How does it work?
Profhilo is the first BDDE-free injectable Hyaluronic Acid for hydrating skin and treating skin laxity.
With one of the highest concentrations of HA in the market (64mg/2cc), the stabilised HA lasts in the skin for about 28 days.
Profhilo works because of 2 types of hyaluronic acid: L-HA and H-HA. This hybrid of HA allows hyaluronic acid to be released slowly and lasts longer allowing bioremodeling to take place.
L-HA as a hybrid complex is released slowly and hydrates your skin, providing the Hydro effect. H-HA provides a stable HA architecture in the dermis that allows volumetric replacement, giving the Lift effect. During this time, the slow release of HA kickstarts stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin.
Histologically, the expression levels of type I and type III collagen and type IV and VII collagen in keratinocytes are increased.
How does it compare to Skin Booster or Rejuran?
Conventionally Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injections does one of the 2 things – Hydration or Volumisation. Although Profhilo also contains HA it does a lot more in boosting and stimulating 4 types of collagen and elastin. This restores the overall integrity of the skin and achieve a lifting effect.
HA, as a skin booster is injected at multiple points under the skin to restore hydration and improve the elasticity of the skin at the injection site. However, this is not a frequently performed treatment as the associated downtime is not always socially acceptable.
HA, as a filler, as its name suggest fills up volume that we lose when we age. This can result in an instant lifting effect by boosting the volume lost. However there is no effect on the skin and does not improve the skin texture.

As such, this poses a risk of forming granuloma.
Is there downtime for Profhilo treatment?
You may have a little swelling at the injection point right after the appointment, but these will subside within 24 hours given that it is spreads easily into the intracellular space. Small bruises over the injection site can be easily concealed as large blood vessels are avoided with the specially designed BAP injection technique with fewer injection points (5 injection points per side of face).
How many injection points are required in Profhilo treatment?
For face treatment using Profhilo, a total of 10 injection points are needed. (5 injection points per side of your face.) Compared to previous skinbooster treatments which generally require more than 30 injection points, Profhilo has the benefit of fewer injection points. This is reduces pain and reduces risk of bruising. This is especially advantageous for busy individuals who want to minimise recovery time. For neck treatment using Profhilo, a total of 10 injection points are needed.
Can Profhilo be combined with Botox/ Fillers?
Profhilo is an effective treatment on its own. However, it does not treat all your problems. A combination with botox and HA fillers can achieve better results.

Is Profhilo painful?
With a topical numbing cream, Profhilo is well-tolerated by most patients.
What is the treatment protocol for Profhilo?
Two sessions of Profhilo are usually required, spaced 1 month apart. Compared to previous skinbooster treatments which generally require 3-4 treatments, Profhilo has the benefit of fewer treatment sessions. This is especially advantageous for busy individuals. One syringe of Profhilo is used in each treatment. One syringe of Profhilo is 2cc in volume. Patients with more skin laxity may benefit from additional Profhilo injection in the following months.
How quickly can I see the results of Profhilo?
Instant hydration effect can be seen as early as 1 week from the treatment, with the best results seen at 1 month following the treatment. Lifting and tightening of the skin is an effect of bio-remodelling, hence it will be evident over 3-6 months.
How long does Profhilo last?
Generally, the effects last for about 9 months to 1 year. Studies recommend a repeat cycle (2 injections, 1 month apart) in 6 months.
Can Profhilo be used to treat other body parts?
The Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) technique is developed by Profhilo specially in treating the lower face and neck. Many physicians have also used Profhilo to treating decolletage, hands, knees and body area where there is skin laxity. Results has been encouraging.
I have done other injectables before. Can I still do Profhilo?
It is important that you discuss any previous injections you’ve had before you proceed. Generally Profhilo, a non-BDDE cross-linked product is not likely to cause reaction with other HA skin boosters or with Rejuran, which are common products injected in the same treatment area. However, there is insufficient information to study the interaction between these different injectable products.
